Barack Obama thanked for decision to review government IT systems

President Barack Obama has been congratulated on his decision to complete an immediate review of the US government IT systems.

Director of intelligence at iDefense, Rick Howard, welcomed the President's actions and his sense to take online security seriously.

He said: “The cyber security landscape has reached a tipping point where any modern internet user, from a child at home to those within the US government, must rethink what they consider important when securing their assets.

“Cyber warfare is now a real threat. Hackers, individually and grouped into cartels, are good at attacking an opposing government's infrastructure in campaigns of annoyance and frustration. Furthermore, cyber espionage is in the open.

“PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates that corporate espionage costs the world's 1,000 largest companies in excess of $45 billion every year. We congratulate President Obama on taking cyber security seriously and putting in place proactive steps to combat it.”
