This software-based product includes the ability to use two-factor authentication as well as digital signatures with the Vasco tokens. The tokens, called Digipass GO, are small key fob-style tokens that feature a single button that you press to create a single-use password.
The server includes Vacman middleware component. The middleware can relay the authentication to the intended destination.
It supports many server and device types for the authentication, including modules for IIS5, IIS6, Outlook Web Access, Citrix, Check Point and many others.
A unique feature of this product is the documentation included with the server install media. The material contains white papers that can be used to help determine which devices are compliant with the Digipass authentication system.
Digipass also includes centralised logging and reporting of authentication events. It offers a software client for users without hardware key fobs, and it was the easiest client single-use password software to use.
Installation was simple and the product installed on Server 2003 without any issues. Like the client software, the administration console was the easiest to use of the products under review.
It took some time initially to figure out how to activate or unlock tokens, but after a little effort we could perform the various tasks without too much trouble.
Documentation came in the form of indexed and searchable PDF files. It proved easy to follow and the layout is logical.
Vasco offers its customers technical support through a number of channel partners and also via an online knowledge base. The knowledge base requires a support ID and a serial number from the device being supported.
The pricing for the Digipass offering was at the low end of the spectrum. The Digipass Basic Pack OTP starts at £252.
Vasco has made quite a name for itself in recent years and with products such as this there is little reason to wonder why.
