For:Digipass Pack for Remote and Network Authentication offers flexible assignable procedures and easy administration
Against:Support could be better
Verdict:A superior product with a disappointing support offering that lowers its overall value a bit

Digipass for Remote & Network Authentication encompasses some of the best features we found packed into one strong two-factor authentication product, starting with intuitive policy-based user authentication. It runs on Radius clients to allow remote VPN access for mobile workers with streamlined ease of administration. The product also supports multiple authentication environments, allowing flexibility for both existing and new configurations.

Digipass can secure various applications, as well as websites containing sensitive data. It needs no integration and credentials are automatically gathered during first use, resulting in minimal administration. Digipass is easily configurable and can be set up to respond when the token/card is removed from the work station.

Vasco’s offering was simple to deploy and configure. Setup is through a key setup procedure in Active Directory, where you need to make a schema change first. The Digipass administrative MMC interface policy creator allows adding and configuring both individual components and back-end servers. The easy-to-navigate self-service web portal used for user registration and setup will limit trouble calls to IT support.

Performance was good in our test environment. The schema change in the Active Directory snap-in adds two tabs within the user accounts menu to assist in configuration. The SAS management console provides easy configuration for terminal services, Windows, web, application and Citrix tabs, where administrators can manage all logon permissions.

The documentation is well laid out, with a hot-linked table of contents, making it fast and easy to find information.

Digipass comes with fair support. The website has a technical knowledge base, but you need an ID number, as well as the serial number, to be granted access. There is a download area, plus a contact support page, but no easily visible support phone number to talk to a support engineer. Communication is through a web form.

At a starting price of £353.85, we found this a bit pricey, even though the functionality of this product is excellent.
