Dropbox reveals revamps in its services

Dropbox has made six major announcements intended to consolidate its role in the market

During a keynote speech at the Dropbox Open event in San Francisco, USA, Dropbox's CEO Drew Houston announced the launch of Dropbox Enterprise, a new business targetting big organisations with advanced security and admin controls.

Three new account management tools intended for business and enterprise customers include suspended user state (allows admins greater flexibility to disable a user's access to their account prior to them leaving a company); sign in as user (allows team admins the ability to maintain business continuity and ensure company policies when logging in to an employee's account); and custom branding (recipients can quickly identify that the information they're seeing comes from your company by letting you add your company's logo to shared link pages).

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is set to become a premier reseller of Dropbox for Business products. The new Dropbox partner network is intended to enable Dropbox's technology and channel partners to work together and deliver new solutions and communicate with customers in sync.

Dropbox Platform 2.0 has also been released. The next generation of its API is intended to make it simpler for developers to build powerful apps on top of the platform.

Dropbox now also meets US HIPAA and HITECH Act compliance obligations to help customers that handle Protected Health Information (PHI).

“What started as a simple way to access files from anywhere has evolved into a global collaboration platform. We're really excited about the future of Dropbox,” Houston said.

Centrify is also a premier partner in Dropbox's new partner network. It offers an Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) solution for Dropbox Business providing secure single sign-on, automatic user provisioning and mobile device management. Centrify will collaborate with Dropbox on cloud access security, through collaboration with mutual cloud access security broker (CASB) partners and enterprise mobility management (EMM).
