Email archiving solution for enterprises introduced by Proofpoint
Proofpoint has launched an enterprise archive solution to help organisations reduce legal discovery risk and costs and providing a secure, searchable repository of all email messages.
The company said that Proofpoint Enterprise Archive enables organisations to easily and consistently perform early case assessments, instantly preserve data in active legal holds and enforce retention policies.
Key features include full support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, including support for Microsoft Outlook Web Access, access to stubbed attachments and advanced search capabilities and support for mixed environments that use multiple Microsoft Exchange server versions including 2003, 2007 and 2010.
There are also enhanced legal hold, ediscovery and compliance features. These include automatic preservation of data in active legal holds and near real-time ediscovery search, to gain insights into custodian datasets for matter strategy and early case assessments.
Proofpoint chief marketing officer Peter Galvin told SC Magazine that in Europe privacy and compliance are key drivers, while in the US it is more about corporate governance. He said: “This will encrypt all data in the archive and you have an application that sits next to the exchange server and encrypts it so that it is secure in the cloud so it is not at risk.
“So if someone stole a drive, they would never have the encryption keys. It gives people a level of confidence in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and it is a lot more secure than in-house IT. People are now using the data centre as a store for applications anyway.”
He also commented that it uses a standard retention policy, so there is now a very credible way of allowing users to meet the standards of compliance. He said: “It also makes it very easy for end-users as otherwise they have to go back to IT and export it and put the term in the search system. This is another advantage as it is easier to find your information as it is all archived.
“Ediscovery is just like data loss prevention, archiving and encryption are all compliance privacy issues about retaining information and giving human resources the capability to do an internal investigation.”
