An ‘internet barometer' that provides
real-time data on the latest attack vectors has gone live.
The free service, from operator Interoute, collects
data from 22 sensors built into the European internet, logging the source,
destination and type of malicious activity. High and medium ranked security
alerts are mapped against the geographic location of the origin and destination
of the attacks.
Mark Osborne, CIO Interoute said: “The
difference between this and other information portals is that this isn't pushing
any specific product or service, and is designed to clear up some of the FUD in
this area by providing clear information for security professionals in a standard
language.
“It can be a task to keep up to date with
the latest vulnerabilities, but this will show considerable detail about precisely
what attacks are happening today, what vulnerabilities are being attacked and
from where”, continued Osborne.
Interoute claims that its 57,000 km fibre network
carries 20 per cent of all European internet traffic.
