According to a recent government report, the UK needs another 745,000 workers with digital skills by 2017. With the digital skills gap costing the economy roughly £63 billion a year in lost income, it's important to raise awareness of digital career opportunities available to students leaving school.

On the 18th of August, QA will be celebrating providing the 10,000th Apprentice in Technology with a party at the school in Reading, Berkshire where the apprentice attended.

QA will also travel to schools and colleges across the country on A Level and GCSE results days to host pop-up parties to raise awareness of IT, tech and digital apprenticeships among students leaving school. Some existing tech apprentices, employers and all of the young people who will receive their results that day will join in at the parties.

If QA Apprenticeships continue to deliver digital apprentices within some of the largest organisations at the rate they've done thus far, they will be able to help toward gaining the 745K target of digital workers needed by 2017.

In commentary to SCmagazineUK.com, Ben Pike, director, QA Apprenticeships said, “Youth unemployment remains a significant issue in the UK. Meanwhile, the growth in the digital economy has created a huge surge in unfulfilled demand for IT professionals. We've all seen the headlines about digital, tech and STEM skills gaps in the UK and how reforming education is critical to address this – firstly to prepare our young people for the future, and secondly for the benefit of our economy. The apprenticeship levy (which will come into effect in April 2017) presents an opportunity for businesses to invest in apprenticeships to become agile in developing the skills industry demands, at the pace the industry needs.”

“QA's Apprenticeship programmes are providing young people with the opportunity to secure an IT apprenticeship job, gaining the qualifications and the experience they need to pursue fulfilling careers in technology.”

“This summer QA will place its 10,000th apprentice into employment – and we are hosting a series of A Level results day parties up and down the country to celebrate this and raise awareness of the exciting tech and digital opportunities that are on offer to young people across the UK.”
