Radware re-launches Nortel brand with the launch of the Alteon 5412 application delivery platform.

Radware has announced the re-launch of the Nortel brand with introduction of the Alteon 5412 application delivery platform.

Seven months after Radware acquired the Nortel-Alteon application delivery product line, it is using the phrase ‘Alteon is Back' to revitalise the brand and has incorporated the product family into its own data centre solutions and strategy suite.

It claimed that the Alteon 5412 offers hassle-free upgrades with no downtime or need to restart the device. The product runs the same Alteon OS as previous models; offering Alteon customers smooth migration to the new platform with the same proven operational simplicity and stability, without any risk or learning curve for integration into the data centre environment.

It offers faster response times and support for high-end environments delivering up to 20Gbps of application switching throughput capacity and up to 340,000 Layer 4 transactions per second (TPS). It also offers four ten Gigabit Ethernet (GE) ports and 12 GE ports, enabling customers to process the highest network traffic capacities required by high-end data centre environments.

Radware director of product marketing, Nir Ilani believed that the product line delivers strong business benefits and continues a trend for being stable.

Ilani said: “The Alteon 5412 is the first platform which is newly released for six years. We are talking about a high end application and from a customer perspective they do not need to study or learn how to operate the device or integration, this is what they are used to and we allow them to enjoy the same capability that they are used to.”

Ilani further claimed that the launch ‘makes us really proud'. “The market is very competitive and we had in mind how to take happy customers and bring more customers into the circle, but we are looking at how to increase the market share. We have more than 100 engineers dedicated to Alteon and we are committed to the product line and in addition we have prepared a solid product line.”

Lucinda Borovick, research vice president of Datacenter Networks at IDC, said: “Offering platform longevity with a five year support program, Radware Alteon customers can reduce capital and operational expenditures, making the 5412 a credible long-term application delivery option for global enterprises.”
