Accidental breach left HSBC customer data exposed for three months
The method of discovery of the breach has also not been disclosed by the financial firm, but the bank immediately notified law enforcement and credit reporting agencies. Currently, affected customers are being notified of the data leak, which has impacted customers of HSBC's subsidiaries that include Beneficial Financial I, Inc., Beneficial Homeowner Services Corportaion, Beneficial Maine, Inc., Beneficial Massachusetts, Inc., Beneficial New Hampshire, Inc., Household Finance Corporation II, Household Finance Corporation of Alabama, Household Financial Center, Inc., and Household Realty Corporation.
According to online news sources, the bank will be offering one year of complimentary services with Identity Guard to those customers who's data has been exposed. The Identity Guard service also monitors chat rooms and other sites to detect if any Social Security number, credit card number or bank account number is being posted.
