Signify is now enabling Android smartphones to be used as authentication devices as part of its software token service.

The company said that these two-factor authentication (2FA) services further extend its flexible range of services, which also includes token-based authentication for frequent users and the tokenless Signify Passcode OnDemand service that sends one-time passcodes (OTPs) via email or SMS text messages on request.

According to Signify, using the service Android smartphone users are now able to access corporate data remotely by entering a PIN into the token application running on the smartphone. This generates a one-time passcode that the user enters into the password field on the computer.

Dave Abraham, CEO at Signify, said: “With the flexibility of our token and tokenless options, companies can combine different 2FA services to meet the needs and working patterns of all their users and because it is a hosted service, there is no need to install and manage a range of complex 2FA in-house systems.

“With more and more people working remotely and logging on to company networks, it is vital that employers have a secure alternative to simple passwords in place to ensure that users have authorisation to access sensitive information and resources.”
