Apple has reportedly sold over 300,000 iPads on its launch in the US, while a video has been posted on it already being ‘jailbroken'.

Apple claimed that as of midnight on Saturday 3rd April, it had sold over 300,000 iPads in the US and that new users had downloaded over one million apps and over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the first day.

CEO Steve Jobs said: “It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world - it's going to be a game changer. iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”

However according to the cultofmac website, the official first-day sales figures were much lower than some analysts had earlier predicted. Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster had expected up to 700,000 iPads would sell on the first day, while Brian Marshall of Broadpoint AmTech predicted that 525,000 iPads would sell during the weekend. The 300,000 sales number is in line with the 270,000 iPhones Apple sold when it launched its handset in 2007.

The iPad has already beenjailbroken', as a two minute video posted to YouTube on Sunday, which at the time of writing has been viewed around 450,000 times, showed the self-declared ‘iPhone hacker' musclenerd doing what he calls ‘very early work on porting ‘Spirit' jailbreak by @comex to iPad'.
