RSA's Conference Europe first London-based event played host to SC's inaugural awards honouring innovative security professionals.

The winners of the first-ever SC Professional Awards were announced on the opening night of the RSA Conference Europe in October.

The special event, held in association with RSA Conference Europe, was attended by professionals from the private and public sectors, who heard why the inaugural winners had been chosen. A key message was the growing integration of information security functions into corporate structures.

In his speech Paul Fisher, SC Magazine's editor, told guests that the event should be seen as "historic", and that the awards would always reward truly outstanding members of the information security profession. He said he looked forward to the event becoming firmly established in the security calendar. "I have no doubt that this event will grow to become something very special and become the Oscars of our industry." he added.

"The common theme tonight was business awareness and innovation - key factors in all the winners' success. I'm excited by these new awards. We can now honour both sides of the industry with two unrivalled awards events."

Also present was Tim Pickard, area vice-president of RSA Conference Europe. "It's important to recognise achievement in our end-user communities," he said. "It is the implementation of technology and the integration of multiple vendor solutions that create secure environments."

Phil Dunkelberger, president and CEO of main sponsor PGP Corporation, was on hand to present the award for Best information security team (banking and financial services) to the group information and IT risk team at HBOS.

Each of the winners was praised for outstanding commitment to excellence, advancing the profession of information security and for acting as an inspiration to their colleagues.
