Fortify Software announced today that it reached a definitive agreement to acquire McLean,Va.-based Secure Software.
Both companies develop products and services to secure software during the development lifecycle.
According to Fortify CEO John Jack, the purchase was made to broaden his company's portfolio, particularly in the services it offers to help companies improve their coding practices.
"The acquisition was driven out of the synergies between the two companies," Jack said. "Secure Software had a reputation of being focused on services, process and automation. We also provide tools and services, but we saw a fit where our portfolio of services could be augmented by bringing people, processes and services from Secure Software."
Through the agreement, Fortify will acquire intellectual property, capital assets and skilled resources belonging to Secure Software. The financial details of the agreement will not be disclosed, Jack said.
Based in Palo Alto, Calif., Fortify tripled its annual revenue last year over 2005 figures. Jack said the acquisition is part of the company's strategy to better accommodate its rapidly expanding customer base.
Fortify will support Secure Works Code Assure for some time, but the plan is to fold this product in with Fortify secure coding products.
