Symantec announced yesterday that it has acquired the IT management software company Altiris.

The takeover was announced on January 29 and valued at $830 million (£421 million) at the time.

Altiris, a US company based in Utah, is a provider of software that enables businesses to manage and service network-based endpoints, including mobile devices, laptop and desktop computers.

Symantec believes the deal will create a more comprehensive approach to better manage and enforce security policies at the endpoint, identify and protect against security threats, and repair and service assets.
