The web security market is predicted to treble in value over the next five years.

 

According to a report by IDC, who have divided the market into three sectors – software, appliances and hosted services – the appliance segment segment reached a value of $256.7 million in 2007 and is predicted to $745.4 million within the next five years.

 

IDC has forecasted an estimated compound annual growth rate of 23.6 percent per year for the next five years with the web security appliance sector projected to outpace the web security software sector by more than a three to one ratio.

 

IDC deems web security to include web filtering products, web anti-malware products, web application firewall products and web content filtering products.
