ScanSafe has launched the first virtual map to show the web threat landscape

ScanSafe has launched the first virtual map to show the web threat landscape.

Named Threat Spy, it displays Malware as it is identified and blocked by ScanSafe. It provides up to date detail on more than 100 million web threats it blocks each month on behalf of customers around the world. It also displays the origin of the blocked threat and also the date and time of the block, this is then updated to show the most recent activity.

Mary Landesman, senior security researcher at ScanSafe, said: “Threat Spy allows the public to take a step away from the volumes of data showing the increasing dangers of the web and actually see the malware being blocked every day in different places around the world.

“We reported a 278 percent increase in malware in the first half of 2008 and this innovative map visualizes this worrying increase. We hope the map will demonstrate how dangerous the threat landscape is and will prompt companies to take action.”
