McAfee has responded to Microsoft's decision to replace its OneCare anti-virus product with the free Morro offering.

In a statement, McAfee said: “Yesterday, Microsoft exited the mainstream consumer security business. With OneCare's market share of less than two per cent, we understand Microsoft's decision to shift attention to their core business. As the leading dedicated security company, we know the focus and commitment it takes to provide world-class protection for consumer, SMB and enterprise customers.

“With more malware attacks than ever before, we believe our advanced technology, commitment to consumer education, superior protection, dedicated focus on security and our 20 plus years in this business will provide consumers the confidence to choose McAfee as their trusted advisor and expert in security.”
