The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the government department responsible for carrying out the ten-yearly census, and for collecting and publishing official statistics about the UK's society and economy. These statistics help inform decisions affecting the lives of all 61million people in the UK and are vital to government, local and health authorities, industry, researchers, students and the public. The statistics we provide are official, independent and free from political influence.
We have a well established record of keeping our data secure while making it available for statistical purposes under secure conditions. The Government's recent data handling review and revised Security Policy Framework now call for an even more rigorous approach and, consequently, we are looking for a senior practitioner to lead our strategic response.
Based at Titchfield, with regular travel to London and Newport, you will take overall responsibility for information security for ONS in the lead up to the 2011 Census and beyond. To meet the demands of this highly influential role, you will need a good understanding of the issues around information assurance and security, together with leadership skills appropriate to this Senior Civil Service role.
