Computacenter has announced that it is to augment, resell and deliver Vblock infrastructure packages.

The Vblock Infrastructure Packages are integrated, tested and validated datacentre infrastructure offerings that combine best-of-breed virtualisation software from VMware, unified networking and computing from Cisco, and storage, security and management technologies from EMC.

Matthew Yaegar, practice leader of data storage and protection at Computacenter, said that he believed that the company was the first approved reseller of the packages in the UK as it was one of the first partners.

Yaegar said: “This is much more than storage, and we are making this available to remote companies. We can sell the Vblock, build it for you, certify it, help you migrate to it and augment it if needs be. We can order it or physically build it as your site. Nobody has Vblock deployed and we are not aware of a final deployment of Vblock yet.”

The coalition of Cisco, EMC and VMware introduced the Virtual Computing Environment coalition at the beginning of November with the launch of the Vblock Infrastructure Packages, which it said were fully integrated, tested, validated, and ready-to-go/ready-to-grow infrastructure packages that combine best-in-class virtualisation, networking, computing, storage, security and management technologies.

Computacenter has also announced the inclusion of the Vblock Infrastructure Package in its proof of concept and testing facility in Hatfield. Director of solutions and technology at Computacenter, Terry Walby, said: “This unique vendor independent facility allows customers to test functionality, scalability and suitability, and run full proof of concept tests in a non-live environment.

“By using the service, customers can be confident in the technology, test its integration into an existing environment and run full implementation and migration tests. Fundamentally, it provides increased confidence by de-risking change.”
