Trend Micro has launched new versions of its consumer products that are optimised for use with Microsoft Windows 7.
Trend Micro Internet Security and Internet Security Pro have both been developed following customer feedback.
The company claimed that in addition to being faster and smarter while remaining easy to use, new features include the automatic prevention of suspicious software on USB drives from opening and installing itself on the computer and the analysis of suspicious domain names and block attempts to open potentially dangerous websites.
It also rates the safety of hyperlink search results via search engines such as Biglobe, Infoseek and Bing on the Trend Micro Toolbar. Users are part of a ‘neighbourhood watch' system of protection via correlation with the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network.
Carol Carpenter, general manager of the consumer and small business unit at Trend Micro, said: “We listened to our customers and honed in on convenience, ease-of-use and efficiency. Compared to last year, our new products have a 20 per cent reduction in installed file size and scan time.
“Trend Micro Internet Security 2010 is comprehensive security that promises easy, fast and smart protection for consumers who are tired of complicated, cumbersome security packages.”
The Security Activity Dashboard has also been improved so customers see a comprehensive and customisable snapshot of all the security activities on their computers through streamlined, charts and graphs. Users' endpoints are also ‘state aware', meaning scans and updates happen only when it's convenient for consumers.
As part of the Pro package, consumers also get a licence for Trend Micro Mobile Security that protects smartphones against viruses, SMS text message spam and other malware attacks. Such as Microsoft Windows Mobile and Symbian OS based devices.
For Mac computer users, Trend Smart Surfing for Mac has anti-malware and web threat protection. It also prevents customers from unknowingly installing dangerous software on their Mac computer.
