An Israeli political party had its website briefly shut down by hackers.

The Jerusalem Post, quoting an Army Radio report, claimed that hackers managed to break into the Kadima party website on Wednesday night. It said that the homepage had a note that showed a photograph of a man in hospital, with the caption ‘This is [former prime minister Ariel] Sharon's case'.

Underneath, the hackers displayed a photo of Kadima party chairman Tzipi Livni, with the caption ‘We promise you - we're coming'. The hackers had written ‘hacker from Gaza' along with slogans in Arabic.

After several minutes, the violent images and slogans were removed from the site and by Thursday morning the website was back online.
