Users of Microsoft email were unable to access their messages for around two hours over the weekend.

When users of Hotmail, Windows Live and MSN tried to login they instead saw a message that read ‘You don't have an inbox … yet'.

A message on the Microsoft Live blog claimed that it was caused by a networking issue encountered while doing routine maintenance. It claimed: “Rest assured that your email is safe! The incorrect message was caused by a networking issue that we encountered while doing routine maintenance.

“We have corrected the problem and you should be able to access your Hotmail account at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience that was caused by this issue, and we thank you for using Hotmail.
