Encryption solution added to data protection suite

Safend has announced the release of a new version of its data protection suite.

A new component of the suite, Safend Inspector is a file-based hard disk encryption product that protects sensitive data residing on PCs and laptops, while leaving programs and operating systems untouched.

It has been designed to be completely transparent to end-users, the help desk and administrators as it requires no changes to work processes and works from a user's existing Windows login interface.

Safend Inspector has been developed to analyse the content of files that are being sent outside the corporate network and can either block, or notify the end-user or administrator to enable even greater control over sensitive data.

Edy Almer, VP product marketing of Safend, claimed that the intention of Inspector is to offer end-users solutions that combine ease of use with granular policy setting.

Almer said: “We have developed solutions which address enterprises' growing needs to protect data with ease of management and use – enabling them to create and enforce security policies that are tailored to their specific organisational IT requirements.

“For a while customers have had an encryption product but not use it, as it was hard to deploy. Existing packages are system based encryption, so it has a login process that will require the user to be trained which will mean more calls to the IT helpdesk.

“If you put the responsibility on the shoulders of the end-user they will make mistakes, encryption doesn't impact them and it is better to have an audit trail of mobiles than to block indiscriminately.”
