IBM has introduced the Proventia Endpoint Secure Control that enables companies to have a total solution with the option to add functions.
Designed to enhance endpoint security, compliance and operations at a lower cost, it is delivered by IBM Internet Security Systems with technology from BigFix.
Marc van Zadelhoff, director of IBM Internet Security Systems, claimed that the big question it gets asked by security departments and IT managers is ‘how do we increase security but reduce cost?'
Van Zadelhoff said: “They need to keep the cost down but remain compliant and we can't afford a breach. Companies want to virtualise, and they have lots of laptops and desktops but the question is how do they ensure that they can secure those computers. How can they be sure that they have the right patching? They have two choices, they can work with 10 plus vendors and create a hodge-podge solution.”
The IBM Proventia Endpoint Secure Control balances customer needs with a single security management interface and flexible choice. It includes intrusion prevention systems, firewall and network access control; data protection such as device control, data loss prevention and endpoint encryption; security configuration and compliance management.
It also includes IT security operations such as security patch management and deployment/removal of security tools that frees enterprises to choose best-of-breed point security products from an array of vendors and manage them as a consolidated solution.
Van Zadelhoff said: “The other option is to have an all in one solution, you can choose this and be fixed but if you don't like one part of it, too bad. We have launched a platform that has flexibility and we offer a solution that ensures choice in each area. It is easier to have one solution and less choice, but we picked this strategy for this area for when people want the right to choose.”
Dave Robbins, BigFix chairman and CEO, said: “We're excited to work with IBM to provide open endpoint security management. Customers want escape from reactive, one-tool-per-threat security to consolidated approaches that help reduce costs and strengthen defences.”
