American rapper and producer Kanye West has been hit by hackers.

West has claimed in a blog that hackers have broken into his personal MySpace and Gmail accounts after some news media incorrectly reported on a fake interview with West, where he claimed that he was interested in participating in bisexual porn movies.

In addition to the attacks on his Gmail, MySpace and Twitter accounts, West also claims that he has discovered 12 Skype accounts using his name. This follows an incident in December where a fake Twitter account, using his name, criticised the Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert. Hostilities between the two dampened when West denied that the Twitter account belonged to him, and claimed that he was being impersonated online.

West said in his blog: “Now somebody has been hacking into my MySpace and somebody's actually hacked into my personal Gmail account and has been emailing people from it. Hey world I no longer have a Gmail!

“I found out I had 12 unauthorised Skype accounts under my name!!!  This all in the past four days. Welcome to Kanye West world! Who have I hurt so bad that they want to destroy me? Who have I ever spoke about so negatively?

Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, said: “Everyone who has an online presence needs to take great care to ensure that their accounts are not compromised, and their passwords are not guessed. Unfortunately celebrities, however glamorous their wardrobe, are just as human as the rest of us - and just as likely to be make a foolish mistake when it comes to properly securing their online accounts.

“We've seen famous people such as Britney Spears, Nicolas Sarkozy and Sarah Palin have their accounts compromised in the past, and no doubt we'll see more in the future.”
