Queen's University Belfast
Research Assistant/Research Fellow (Video Event Recognition and Object Tracking) Ref: 12/101905
Centre For Secure Information Technologies (CSIT)
Based at Queen's University's Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT http://www.ecit.qub.ac.uk/), the £30 million world-class Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT http://www.csit.qub.ac.uk/) will couple major research breakthroughs with a wide portfolio of leading UK based companies in an exciting innovation and commercialisation environment. Applications are now sought for the following research position within the Intelligent Surveillance Systems group of CSIT.
Available for three years up to March 2015 the main focus of the research will be event recognition and semantic event retrieval. Specifically, the role involves the development of a new system that reveals the coherence between two or more scenarios, and then correctly categorises these trajectories/observations into event groups using, for example, graphical model approaches. In particular, a novel and robust classifier will be sought to disambiguate the observed motion patterns in the feature space, so that the semantic search can be optimally achieved over a large database. The application scenario is that of video surveillance for public transport.
