LSE is a cosmopolitan community in the centre of London focusing on the study of the social sciences. We are now looking to recruit an experienced information security professional who will be the School's leading expert on information security. The role is therefore a senior one with broad scope and requires strategic thinking, policy development and tactical operational management. Based in IT Services and reporting to the Director of Management Information and Technology (and head of service), you will be responsible for the continued development and enforcement of an institutional information security policy, procedures and appropriate standards, including the development, roll-out and on-going maintenance of a security awareness programme to all LSE staff and students.

You will also be responsible for carrying out day-to-day ICT security and business continuity related duties such as responding to security threats, vulnerabilities and actual attacks on systems. Working with colleagues in IT Services, you will ensure that all ICT systems are appropriately protected against virus, malware and other forms of malicious attack. You will be expected to ensure appropriate compliance with audit requirements and best industry practice, keeping pace with relevant technology developments and trends. LSE is embarking on an ambitious programme of delivering new services, some of which may be sourced in the Cloud. You will need to be sensitive to user demand and enable the academic and business activities of the School to operate in an environment of controlled risk.

You should have:

  • A first degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience of developing information security policies and procedures in an enterprise environment
  • Evidence of risk management and control, and a good understanding of information security and business continuity standards (ISO27001/BS25999)
  • Practical experience of carrying out forensic IT investigations and have a sound knowledge of the legislation affecting the delivery of IT services
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to produce clear and accurate documents, comprehensible to non-technical audiences.
