BeyondTrust has announced the addition of data loss prevention (DLP) functionality to its PowerBroker desktop solution.

Allowing customers to centrally monitor and control data flow, and assess sensitive content loss risks, PowerBroker Desktops, DLP Edition version 3.2 features enhanced controls for encrypted and unrecognised file formats, as well as reporting of extended status and event messages to the Windows Event Log.

According to BeyondTrust, the solution is a content-driven DLP system that polices sensitive data on desktops by monitoring and controlling data transfer across distributed and diverse network environments, regardless of the type of content.

It increases visibility of, and jurisdiction over, endpoint violations via file encryption, usage and permission controls to intellectual property.

Andrey Kolishchak, senior director of DLP program management at BeyondTrust, said: “These important updates continue the evolution of our product line as we work to deliver full insider threat mitigation solutions to our customers.

“These updates provide additional security management controls for enhanced protection of an organisation's sensitive data through a simple-to-deploy, cost-effective solution.”

Controls for encrypted and unrecognised file formats give customers the ability to assign data access rules to encrypted content, such as password-protected documents and archives, in more than 500 file formats, as well as unknown content in unrecognised file formats.
