Blue Coat and IBM have signed an agreement that will see the latter providing a new managed security service secure web gateway offering to new and existing Blue Coat users.

Blue Coat and IBM have signed an agreement that will see the latter providing a new managed security service secure web gateway offering to new and existing Blue Coat users.

The new offering comprises Blue Coat ProxySG and ProxyAV appliances at the internet gateway for inline anti-virus detection and IT policy enforcement. Additions from IBM include constant monitoring and management of the Blue Coat secure web gateway solution and IBM X-Force research around evolving security threats and vulnerabilities.

Kevin Biggs, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Blue Coat, said: “Our newly expanded relationship with IBM provides global enterprise clients with our industry-leading secure web gateway solution managed by IBM to create a first line of defence against the numerous web-based threats facing IT organisations today.

"Combining our security expertise and web awareness with IBM's services expertise provides a unique, comprehensive solution that clients worldwide can use to better protect against web-based threats and improve the overall manageability of their IT infrastructure."

Marisa Viveros, vice president of IBM Security Services, said: “Today's agreement provides a new addition to the IBM managed security services portfolio. The IBM secure web gateway service further rounds out our managed security services portfolio by adding to the existing multi vendor and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions in the URL and web filtering space.”
