CERT-UK publishes DDoS guidance

News by Ava Fedorov

CERT-UK last week published an introductory paper on denial of service (DOS) and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, which details attack methods, the attacker motives and the effects these attacks can have on websites and online services.

The document, which is entitled 'Denial of service attacks - what you need to know', is available on the CERT.gov website and offers mitigation advice, which includes deploying firewalls and up-to-date antivirus software.

DOS and DDOS attacks are becoming ubiquitous threats across the UK, racking up millions of pounds in the damages resulting from business loss, service disruptions and follow-on attacks.
