Cisco has announced an agreement to purchase Cognio, a provider of wireless network management and spectrum analysis.

Its technology allows network managers to oversee their wireless spectrum and reduce radio frequency (RF) interference, the California-based firm said in a statement.

Cisco said the acquisition will boost the company’s unified wireless networking potential and provide improved technology, intellectual property and a core team to expand leadership in unified WiFi networking.

The deal, set to close in the first quarter next year subject to conditions, will see the Maryland-based company integrated into Cisco’s wireless networking business unit.
