Proofpoint has broadened its hybrid email security offerings with the availability of Proofpoint Shield.
It is an email security solution that is designed for organisations that are seeking to leverage the benefits of a hybrid on-demand/on-premises deployment.
As a SaaS solution, the company claims it is designed to defend against malicious and spam email connections, as well as to dramatically reduce inbound spam volume and prevent denial-of-service and directory harvest attacks.
It sits in front of appliances and other on-premises solutions to reduce the volume of inbound email that must be processed by on-premises email security gateways by 80 to 90 per cent, according to Proofpoint.
It can be deployed in front of any on-premises email security appliance, including the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway as well as third-party solutions from Cisco (IronPort), McAfee (Secure Computing/CipherTrust), Symantec, Trend Micro and Tumbleweed.
Paul LaPorte, global solutions marketing manager for Proofpoint, said: “Rapid fluctuations in spam volume and the unpredictable nature of DOS and DHA attacks can result in massive spikes in email traffic. Proofpoint Shield eliminates the bulk of inbound spam and malicious connections and improves the efficiency, stability and effectiveness of an organisation's downstream email infrastructure.”
