New York, NY, October 28, 2019 — CyberRisk Alliance (CRA), a business intelligence company serving the cyber-security and information risk management marketplace, has announced the appointment of highly accomplished and respected leader John Whelan as President of SC Media and InfoSec World. Whelan brings rich media and event experience to this new role from multiple sectors, including financial, health and legal. He has an impressive and consistent track record in aligning business strategies with the needs of the community, while driving product innovation and growth.
As President, Whelan will have full operating responsibility for two of CyberRisk Alliance’s marquee brands, SC Media and InfoSec World. In this newly created role, he will oversee CRA’s integrated delivery of information services across its media and event platforms. Whelan is also charged with expanding the portfolio of information products and solutions through organic development and strategic investments to serve the evolving information needs of cyber-security professionals, as well as our marketing partners.
Whelan joins CyberRisk Alliance from HIMSS, where he served as Executive Vice President HIMSS Media for the past six years. During his tenure there, he was credited with transforming the business to an integrated, data-driven services platform with a globally distributed audience and international client base. Prior to HIMSS, he served in various executive capacities with Summit Business Media, Wicks Business Information and Thomson.
"I’m excited to join CRA at such an important time for the industry, and to assume responsibility for an influential portfolio of information brands serving the cyber-security community," says Whelan. "The cyber-security and information risk management marketplace is exploding in terms of global scale, importance and complexity, and there’s never been a greater need for a scaled, focused information platform to serve the community’s need for trusted information, insights and peer network access. Our goal is to build a community of knowledgeable cyber-security professionals connected to us – and to each other – through powerful information services delivered across multiple formats."
"John brings highly relevant experience and a deep commitment to support our vision and aggressive growth strategy, while standing committed to our mission to serve the cyber-security community with a uniquely diverse portfolio," says CRA CEO and Founder, Doug Manoni. "It’s gratifying that our rapid success allows us to attract an executive of John’s caliber to our company. He’s an innovative executive, with an exceptional track record of success, and it’s a genuine personal pleasure to invite him into our partnership."
CRA was founded in November 2018 by Manoni, an accomplished business information executive, and the equity firm Growth Catalyst Partners to serve cyber-security and other executive leaders with integrated intelligence resources. Over the last several months, CRA has made several decisive moves to organically build and acquire leading businesses to solidify its position, as it executes on its strategy to disrupt the cyber-security and information risk management marketplace.
Earlier this month, cyber-security expert Malcolm Harkins joined the board of directors of CyberRisk Alliance. Harkins, named one of the Premier Information Technology Leaders for 2012 by Computerworld, is a Fellow with the Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology, a non-partisan think-tank providing advice on cyber-security to the House, Senate, and a variety of federal agencies. An avid contributor to the cyber-security community, Harkins has authored numerous white papers and has published a book, Managing Risk and Information Security: Protect to Enable®.
