DeviceWall version 4.5
Strengths: A feature-rich and easy-to-manage complete endpoint security solution with good USB features
Weaknesses: No phone support and slightly weak documentation that is missing screen shots
Verdict: Good value for just about any size enterprise. Recommended
DeviceWall goes way beyond typical USB security features and can be used as a complete endpoint security product. On the USB security side, it can give permission to certain USB devices such as floppy drives or cameras separately and block only the use of USB thumb drives. We also found that DeviceWall can provide encryption to USB drives, and a rule can be set that the drive must be encrypted in order to be used.
This product was very easy to use. Installation and deployment took just minutes, consisting of putting in the CD and starting the installation wizard. The management console was easy to use and provided an intuitive look for easy navigation. Policy management was also simple with many options and flexible controls.
With its well-organised interface and flexible policy options we found this product to be an excellent USB security tool. All of DeviceWall's components work well together and it can be easily integrated with a current Active Directory structure, which makes deployment simple in almost any domain-based environment.
Documentation for this product is available on the vendor website as a PDF file. It is an easy read and provides excellent step-by-step instructions on configuring and managing the product. The only aspect we found lacking in the documentation is the absence of screen shots.
Support offered for DeviceWall is limited to customers with full versions of the software. As for support content, it is web-based and you need your licence key to get access to the site. This contains many useful support tools, including FAQs, downloads, technical documentation, and email support. However, we could not locate any phone support on the website or on any of the packaging for the product.
At a base price of £12.20 for a 250-user licence, DeviceWall offers great value for environments of any size. We found that its simple deployment, easy manageability, and feature list make this product really shine. For this reason, we give it our Recommended award.
