Essex County District School Board fears leak of staff information

The Essex County District School Board in Ontario, Canada, may have experienced a data leak of staff information - authorities are investigating.

Personal information on staff members at the Greater Essex County District School Board in Ontario, Canada may have  been accessed in a possible data breach, according to

The website reported that an email to staff stated  information such as their names, dates of birth, social insurance numbers and direct deposit details was accessible because of a vulnerability in  the internal computer network.

The email said that “the full scope of information that was potentially vulnerable is still undergoing investigation”. reported that a student discovered the vulnerability and alerted staff on Monday morning. At least three students were aware of the flaw, but it is believed none of them copied or shared the information.

It is believed the vulnerability has been rectified, and the school board has notified the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario and police.
