Catherine De Bolle, general commissioner of the Belgian federal police, the selected candidate for the post of Executive Director of European Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol), is giving a presentation at the Civil Liberties Committee meeting today (5.10 to 6.30 pm) at the European Parliament in Brussels, to be followed by questions from MEPs.

The executive director is selected from a list of suitable candidates proposed by the management board of Europol. Once confirmed by the Council, the selected candidate is heard by the European Parliament LIBE committee, which then issues a non-binding opinion. Following this, the selected candidate can be appointed by the Council.
De Bolle was selected as the candidate for the post by the Council. After today's hearing, the MEPs in the Civil Liberties Committee will issue a non-binding opinion to the Council on De Bolle's appointment.
The executive director of Europol is appointed for a four year term. The term of the current director, Rob Wainwright, ends on 1 May, 2018.
