Over half of IT executives are unhappy with the quality and use of data from their IT asset discovery tools.
According to a survey by BDNA, 60.6 per cent of respondents from the UK and France claimed to be either totally dissatisfied or experiencing some level of dissatisfaction when asked about the quality and use of data from their IT asset discovery tools. Of those, there was a higher level of dissatisfaction amongst the French respondents (64.4 per cent), compared with the respondents from the UK (53.7 per cent).
Nearly one-fifth (17.5 per cent) were using SMS/SCCM (systems management server/system), while more than ten per cent were either using BMC Patrol or IBM Tivoli and seven per cent were either using CA Unicenter or HP Radia. Approximately 7.5 per cent were using IBM Tivoli and less than one per cent (0.9) were using HP Radia.
Nearly one-third (30.4 per cent) of respondents in the UK stated that they currently use their data for ITIL compliance, compared with 13.4 per cent of respondents in France, and nearly half (46.4 per cent) in the UK use their data for licence compliance reasons compared with 27.8 per cent of respondents in France.
In terms of the number of computers or endpoints being managed by either the respondents or their teams, more than one-third (36.8 per cent) fell into the category of 1,000-5,000 assets and another one-fifth (18 per cent) were in the 5,001-10,0000 group. A quarter were managing more than 10,000 assets across their organisation.
Paul Winters, UK country manager for BDNA, said: “Making sense of asset or audit data quickly is critical because it not only helps to reduce manpower hours but it also helps to reduce risk, and this is important in today's economic uncertainty.
“At BDNA we appreciate that many organisations have invested heavily in IT management software that provides some level of discovery information, but these toolsets are not delivering the business information that the organisations need to make real savings and manage risks.”
