Two features make F-Secure Client Security 7 highly functional. The first, called DeepGuard, is a host-based intrusion prevention system that enables the product to adapt and see possible threats that are unknown. The second feature, BlackLight, searches for problems below the surface or those that may be hidden in programs such as rootkits.
We found this solution to be quite easy to use. Following installation, which only took minutes, we opened up the management console and had clients deployed and scanning almost instantly. The management console itself is very intuitive and easy to navigate. It also provides statistics and policy information on clients in a simple tab-top layout.
This product has the combined ability to find computers based on Active Directory and to easily deploy and manage clients. We found it to be very efficient. F-Secure Client Security 7 protects against all the dangerous threats such as viruses, network worm attacks, spyware, rootkits and zero-day threats. It also incorporates a firewall.
Documentation, in PDF format, is included on a CD and consists of a getting-started guide and a reviewers' guide. The former illustrates installing both the policy manager and the client, while the reviewers' guide details the basic configuration and functions of the product. Although the guides were easy to follow and understand, the getting-started guide lacked screenshots and deployment diagrams. Including these would have added to the effectiveness of the documentation. The administrators' guide can be found on the vendor website. We found it to be well organised and easy to understand with many screenshots.
The purchase of a licence includes support and maintenance service for one year. After that, service can be purchased for an annual fee, which is usually 50 per cent of the retail price. Support service includes email support within two business days.
This product offers a large amount of protection for a fair price. We find that its ease of use, flexibility and extensive scope of protection make this product a great value for the money.
