Facebook announced more API platform updates following the Cambridge Analytica scandal which resulted in the misuse of the information from 120 million users.
The company said it will be introducing new restrictions and changes regarding the Graph API Explorer App, Profile Expression Kit, Media Solutions APIs, Pages API, Marketing API, Lead Ads Retrieval and Live Video APIs, all with the goal of better protecting user information, according to a 2 July blog post.
Starting today, Facebook is deprecating its Graph API Explorer App and developers will need to use their own apps' access tokens to do test queries on the Graph API Explorer. Facebook will also be deprecating its Profile Expression Kit tool on 1 October due to low adoption.
The company also announced that it will be making it possible for developers to search for Facebook Pages via the Pages API again. To enable them to more easily find similar Pages, to @mention other Pages in Facebook comments or posts, and tag a Page in a Facebook ad for co-branding purposes, the post said.
This time around however, developers will need feature permissions to Page Public Content Access, which can only be obtained through an app review process.
The changes are designed to enable developers to create social experiences while protection people's information.
