Five new BlackBerry phones unveiled in London; first ever all-touch handset

Surprising few people RIM announced five new BlackBerry handsets at a London event today, a location that carries some significance as the UK is one of the few markets where RIM's share of the smart phone market is still growing.

Still, the BlackBerry remains the security managers phone of choice and so along with the nation's BBM mad youth they will soon have the choice of two new Bold and three new Torch models to choose from. The Torch 9850 and 9860 devices are the first ever all-touch Blackberry handsets.

Of greater significance to mobile watchers is the new BlackBerry 7 OS that the new handsets will be carrying designed to compete with iOS and Android.

“The BlackBerry solution offers a best-in-class mobile communications experience that customers love and we think they will be thrilled by the faster performance, enhanced browsing and richer multimedia delivered by these powerful new BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Torch smart phones,” said an optimistic Mike Lazaridis, President of RIM.
