GFI EndPointSecurity provides allow or deny access to endpoint-based devices on network computers running the small agent service. These can include removable media such as USB drives, CompactFlash, memory cards, CDs or floppy disks, as well as PDAs, BlackBerrys, mobile phones, smartphones and other communication devices.
This product also goes a step further and controls access to media players, network cards and other network communications.
The initial installation is done from an executable that launches a short setup wizard. After the completion of the setup wizard, configuration is done using a quick-start dialog that guides through setting up user groups, database plug-in, alerting options and basic policy configuration. Once this is complete all further configuration and management is done using the GFI management console application. We found this to be easy-to-use and navigate with a tab-top navigation structure.
Agent and policy deployment is also done through this console and network computers can be easily organised into groups for granular policy control. Policies can be set for specific computer types such as workstations, servers or laptops, which allows administrators to give out different policies to meet the needs of varying situations and user types.
Documentation included a single PDF user guide. This covers the product from initial installation through configuration and management. We found it to be well organised and easy to follow with many step-by-step instructions, configuration examples and screenshots.
GFI offers one year of support included in the purchase price of the product. This includes 24/5 phone and email technical support. After the first year customers can purchase additional support at 20 per cent of the product price. There is also a free support area on the website that includes a knowledgebase and user forum.
At a price of £480 for 25 computers we find this product provides a lot of features and is good value for money.
