GFI Software has completed the acquisition of Sunbelt Software.
The provider of software infrastructure products for small and medium-sized enterprises has acquired both Sunbelt Software and specifically the VIPRE product suite.
The acquisition will allow GFI to merge the VIPRE technology into its email security and web security solutions group. The assets of Sunbelt's software distribution business started over 16 years ago and is separate from the technology side of the company. It will be divested into a separate entity and the company is exploring other strategic partnerships. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Writing on the Sunbelt Software blog, Alex Eckelberry, CEO of Sunbelt Software, said that he was ‘thrilled to be part of the GFI team'. He said: “Both companies are similar in their attitudes and practices with regard to customer service, product quality, strategic vision, organisational styles and culture.
“On the technology side, the acquisition allows us to expand into several areas, which we believe are essential for us to grow as a company and continue to provide leading-edge technologies to our customers.”
He confirmed that no specific plans had been made in terms of product integration strategies, but that it was working with the GFI team to identify areas where its technologies would complement the Sunbelt Software offerings.
He also said that the Sunbelt Software management team and product teams will continue with the new organisation, while he will staying on to run the VIPRE business and other security offerings. Co-founder Stu Sjouwerman is to retire.
He said: “For the time being, both companies are hard at work, integrating the various sales, marketing, finance, and technology teams. Our goal is to make the combination of the companies as seamless as possible to our customers and partners.
“It's an exciting day for us here at Sunbelt, and I believe sincerely that this acquistion was in the best interests of all parties — not only our shareholders and employees, but most importantly, our customers and partners.”
Walter Scott, CEO of GFI, said: “We were impressed by the high quality and innovative technology that underlies Sunbelt's VIPRE line of products and immediately saw strong synergies between the two companies. We have acquired a good, growing and cash flow positive business that fits well within GFI's strategic vision to consolidate our products and grow our business.
“We see this investment in Sunbelt and its VIPRE technology as an excellent opportunity to increase our install base, drive the software globally through our international partner channel and also build our consumer market, which has a powerful drag-along effect on the SME market.”
