GFI Software has announced the launch of version five of its VIPRE anti-virus business edition to enhance usability and improve installation time.
According to the company, VIPRE Antivirus Business 5.0 and VIPRE Business Premium 5.0 include enhancements such as incompatible software removal, automatic Windows firewall configuration, remote management and an enhanced management console.
The incompatible software removal tool enables IT administrators to deploy VIPRE Business in an environment free of other anti-virus agents, while the installation process automatically configures and provisions Windows Firewall settings on all endpoints to ensure communication with all deployed VIPRE agents.
Mark Patton, general manager of the Security Business Unit at GFI Software, told SC Magazine that customer feedback found that the installation process was often a barrier to deployment.
Jason Chronowitz, product manager, said: “Ninety-nine per cent of problems is in the replacement – they have anti-virus but are not happy with it. The main reasons for this are detection rates or the footprint on the endpoint, and removing the old software is a time-consuming event.
“So with 5.0 we added the removal tool that also does not leave the endpoint in a state of unprotection. We realise how challenging this is.”
Version 5.0 also eliminates the need for any database configuration by IT administrators by employing an integrated database.
Patton said: “Our focus continues to be on refining VIPRE to deliver superior performance and protection, through a solution that is easier to deploy, easier to manage and more effective at detecting and stopping threats than ever before.”
