Two UK-based IT security resellers, GSS and Peapod, are to merge.

The new business will trade under the GSS brand with a combined client list of 2,500, GSS said in a statement.

“Peapod’s values were nearly identical to ours, and we are very keen to create a major force in the industry,” said David Hobson, managing director of GSS. “By putting together two well-established businesses we will achieve that.”

He expects the merger to rival some of the bigger UK IT security resellers, including Integralis, Vistorm and Netstor.

Hobson said that Peapod’s consultancy division would bring something new to the company.

“There are no more mergers or acquisitions planned for the foreseeable future, but it is our ambition to make more. However, it is a bit early to say in which areas,” he added.

GSS will continue to work from its Worthing offices and Peapod will operate from its base in Bracknell.

Peapod was founded in 1995 to provide internet and information security solutions.

GSS was established in 1997 as a rival reseller of IT security products.
