With a little programming skill, Amazon's Dash buttons can be hacked to do 'almost anything.'

In a post, Edward Benson reveals how the Dash buttons work and how he hacked them. The buttons are simply a Wi-Fi radio and a battery. They are inactive until the button is pushed and when activated, it then connects to your Wi-Fi network.

A device connecting to a network is an event that can be easily detected, logged and used. Benson set up his button pushes to feed into a Google spreadsheet, and uses it as a one-stop system.

Platforms such as IFTTT can use one digital action to complete another completely different digital action meaning the there are vast numbers of possible uses for the Dash buttons.
