Hackers deface Russian news website amid Crimea crisis

News by Doug Drinkwater

RT.com, the pro-Putin Russian news website, says that hackers defaced its website by replacing the word "Russian" with the word "Nazi" in several article headlines earlier today.

The hack was reported at approximately 5am GMT and saw numerous embarrassing changes, including one article that bore the edited headline “Thousands rally against ‘illegitimate govt', raise Nazi flags in eastern Ukraine.”

The defaced articles, which come shortly after Russian military forces took control of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula, were edited within 30 minutes, with RT later admitting the hack on Twitter.

“Hackers deface RT.com website, crack admin address, place “Nazi” in every headline. Back to normal now,” the news outlet tweeted.
