Hackers invited to test IoT devices at Defcon

News by Danielle Correa

Hackers have been extended invitations to test the latest  Internet of Things (IoT) contraptions for Apple, Fitbit and Samsung at this year's DefCon 23 conference in Las Vegas in August.

The Apple Time Capsule network storage device, the Fitbit Aria scale and a Samsung Smart Cam IP Baby Monitor are among the devices that will be tested at the conference.

This year's ‘IoT village' will give manufacturers the opportunity to eliminate security flaws ahead of the game for their approaching product launches. Independent Security Evaluators (ISE) is organising the IoT village. They ran a similar event for router security at last year's DefCon.

Many researchers have dedicated time and energy, however no one in previous years has put together a hacking event of this extent to focus on improving the IoT.
