Hacking group SEA takes down international web hosting servers

News by Ava Fedorov

The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) has successfully compromised several brands within Endurance International Group INC, one of the largest web-hosting companies in the world. Already known for its advanced phishing attacks against high-profile websites and organisations, SEA claims to have hacked Endurance brands, including BlueHost, JustHost, HostGator, and HostMonster, that were hosting terrorist sites on their servers.

Allegedly aligned with Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, the SEA posted screenshots of the hacked web hosting companies' panels via their official Twitter account. According to online analysts, panel access reveals that the group had "complete access to the total panel of these hosting companies." The SEA also warned in a tweet addressing its attack victims that, should there incur a subsequent attack against the hosting companies, the DNS settings will be changed.
