Hitachi ID Identity Manager

Weaknesses: Highly configurable, so requires some time to feel comfortable using it
Verdict: A solid product that may take you a bit to get used to
Hitachi ID Identity Manager is part of the company's Management Suite that also includes utilities for password and privileged password management. We have seen it mature over the last few years to become a solid identity management tool.
With Identity Manager administrators can easily enter in new employees, as well as terminate accounts that are no longer needed, synchronise accounts and create powerful identity workflows, all from one application.
Installation of this product, while quite straightforward, requires some configuration other than just double clicking an installer. Before installation can begin an SQL server must be setup and configured with certain database parameters in order for it to install. Once the database is installed and ready to go the setup executable can be run. This launches an easy to follow wizard and takes just a few minutes.
After this is complete all configuration and management is done through the web-based user interface. This was fairly easy to navigate.
The Identity Manager has a slight learning curve but it can be a very powerful provisioning tool. After some time navigating around the console, we found that with its many policy options, it can be very configurable in order to meet the needs of almost any environment.
Documentation provided with this product was made up of several PDF manuals, including installation, administrator and quick-start guides. We found all of these to be easy to follow, with step-by-step instructions and many screenshots.
Hitachi ID Systems provides annual maintenance support contracts for customers, which includes unlimited technical support via email, telephone, fax and secure remote VPN, as well as access to all major updates and upgrades to the product.* Customers can also access a support portal that includes a knowledgebase and other resources.
At a price starting at £19.80 per user we find this product to be good value for the money. Hitachi ID Identity Manager provides some good features with a fairly easy to configure management console.
