IBM is expanding its range of System Storage DS3000 products with the release of a new iSCSI standard storage system and two Express models based on the DS3400 Fibre Channel series.
The System Storage DS3300 is an iSCSI storage controller with integrated management software. It aims to utilise the IP infrastructures of small and medium sized businesses in order to effectively deploy networked storage
The new product supports SAS hard disk drives and provides reliable shared storage for up to 14.4 terabytes of raw capacity. DS3300 also improves the efficiency of a company’s IT department as it can be shared between applications and servers and across different locations.
Sean Hobday, executive vice president of sales at IBM System Storage reseller, Zones, believes that smaller companies would benefit from the solution.
"The DS3300 will be an ideal solution for SMBs who are transitioning from internal to external storage and have limited IT resources and expertise to dedicate to such a task" he said.
The new Express models have been designated as Microsoft Simple Storage Area Network (SAN) Solutions and IBM claims they have been developed to make the installation and management of a SAN more cost-effective. The DS3300 will be available from 7th September 2007, with prices from apppx £2,490
